‘Train to Busan’ remake names its producer

American entertainment news outlet Deadline confirmed on Wednesday that Australian film producer, screenwriter and director James Wan will produce the Hollywood remake of the Korean zombie movie “Train to Busan.”

Rights to the film were acquired by New Line Cinema and the remake will be written by screen writer Gary Dauberman. Wan and his film production company Atomic Monster will be producing with Gaumont, the original rightsholder.

Wan is known for his work on horror films, with his most recent box office hit being “The Nun” from New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring Universe. He has also worked as an executive producer on the hit “Saw” series of films. The first major film he produced was “Annabelle,” which was released in 2014.

“Train to Busan” revolves around a zombie virus that breaks out in Korea. Passengers struggle to survive on a train from Seoul to Busan that is filled with zombies. The movie was directed by Yeon Sang-ho and was a huge box office hit in Korea, grossing over $80 million domestically and $2 million in the United States.

The release date and the cast for the remake have yet to be announced.
