Feb 11,2019
1) The “heating strike,” which has been carried out by electricians and maintenance staff employed by Seoul National University, continued on Feb. 8.

2) The strikers refused to heat university buildings, including the library, and demanded the improvement of their working conditions and the extension of their retirement age.

3) The strikers requested performance-based payment, holiday fees and welfare points, such as those received by regular workers the likes of office and administration employees.

4) The strikers are irregular workers belonging to outsourced service providers, but who were converted to regular workers in March according to a policy established by the Moon Jae-in administration.

5) The strikers’ union said that if the university doesn’t accept their demands, the “heating strike” will continue indefinitely.

6) The union added that beginning next week, custodial workers will also take part in the strike.

7) The university stated that though the machinery room is the strikers’ workplace, shutting it down themselves is in violation of the law.

8) The university also criticized the fact that though the union claimed the strike had been approved by the students, the case was not so when the school contacted the student association.
