Dodgers’ Ryu Hyun-jin added to 10-day injured list

Apr 11,2019
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin has landed on the injured list (IL).

The Dodgers placed Ryu on the 10-day IL on Tuesday, a day after the left-hander suffered a left groin strain during a start against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Ryu exited the game after throwing his 34th pitch with two outs in the bottom of the second inning and the score tied at 2-2. Ryu was charged with two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings, and he’s 2-0 for the year with a 3.07 ERA.

It’s the same left groin that he injured in May last year, and he ended up missing three months. Ryu said after the game that the injury wasn’t as severe this time as a year ago, and he only took himself out for precautionary reasons, though he still ended on the IL for the ninth time in his career.

Before this season, Ryu, 32, repeatedly said his goal was to avoid an IL stint and stay healthy all year. He has been on the IL at least once every season since his sophomore year in 2014. Additionally, to his groin problem, Ryu has been sidelined with shoulder, elbow, foot and hip injuries in the past.
