Defense Ministry goes over remains with UNC

May 15,2019
The Defense Ministry was scheduled to hold an orientation session Tuesday for United Nations Command (UNC)officers, including deputy commander Lt. Gen. Wayne D. Eyre, about its efforts to excavate and identify war remains. About 20 UNC officials, including Eyre and liaison officers from Australia, Thailand and Belgium, were expected to attend the session aimed at outlining remains recovery efforts and discussing ways of cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.

The UNC officers will be briefed on the excavation project and observe the forensic process currently under way for the remains found along the border with North Korea. They will discuss possible cooperation, such as securing DNA samples from families in other countries that participated in the 1950-53 Korean War.
