SPC Samlip to manufacture faux eggs, other vegan food

Mar 19,2020
SPC Samlip announced Wednesday it sealed an exclusive partnership deal with San Francisco-based food startup Eat Just, to enter into the 16 trillion won ($12 billion) vegan market.

Eat Just is best known for its plant-based scrambled eggs alternative. It offers a variety of vegan foods, including plant-based mayonnaise and sauce.

Vegan products developed by the company will be produced in SPC’s manufacturing plant located in Cheongju, North Chungcheong, and will be exclusively distributed in the local market by SPC beginning in the second half of this year.

Starting off with affiliate brands like Dunkin Donuts and Paris Baguette, SPC plans to expand the products into the B2B market.

The company said it will diversify the range of plant-based protein options and increase investment in research and development of vegan products.

The International Egg Commission predicts the global market for plant-based protein to grow to up to 42 trillion won in 2023.

“Plant-based protein has a huge growth potential. The market is growing by 10 percent every year. This partnership will help SPC Samlip become a leader in the local food-tech industry,” said an official from the SPC.
