Judy (12)

Drama, Musical / 118 mins. / English / March 25

This biographical drama portrays the final year of iconic American singer and actor Judy Garland’s life.

In 1968, things are not looking good for Judy: She is no longer asked to perform on stage after losing credibility for being unreliable.

An agent tells her that British audiences are eager to see her perform, so she makes the difficult decision to part from her children in order to make enough money to be able to take care of them. She leaves them with her ex-husband Sidney Luft and goes to Britain, where audiences go wild for her.

The film flashes back to show how the singer rose to fame in her iconic role of Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.” Through the flashbacks, Judy’s exhaustion in the present and her inconsistencies are explained.

Actor Renee Zellweger plays Garland. For this role, Zellweger took home a number of Best Actress trophies from The Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, the Bafta Awards and the Academy Awards.

Drama, Thriller / 127 mins. / English / March 11

Residents are saying that they often feel nauseous and suffer from high fevers, while an unusually high number of babies with deformities are born.

Robert Bilott, a lawyer at the law firm Taft Stettinius & Hollister, is asked by Wilbur Tennant, a friend of his grandmother’s, to investigate the deaths and sicknesses in the city.

What Bilott discovers is horrifying. He finds that DuPont, an American chemical manufacturing company, has been dumping hundreds of gallons worth of unregulated chemical toxins called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) into the city river. PFOA, when consumed, does not leave the bloodstream and accumulates within the body. Although the conglomerate was aware of the hazardous effects of the acid for decades, they allowed the chemical to seep into everyday objects such as frying pans, contact lenses and even baby mats.

After making the discovery, Bilott files a lawsuit at the risk of not only his career, but also his wife’s and the livelihood of his family.
