Refute from Iranian Embassy

According to the news article “In Seoul, Bolton Talks Middle East Navigation” published in the Korea JoongAng Daily on July 25, claims that Iran is responsible for attacks on Japanese and Danish tankers in Persian Gulf.

In this regard, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, so as to abide by the Press Act and transparency, hereby forwards the letter of refutation against baseless and outrageous claims to be immediately published on the esteemed newspaper.

1. The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a credible member of the United Nations, has complied with international laws and regulations and has fulfilled moral and legal responsibilities in the international community. Furthermore, Iran is fulfilling its obligation to ensure freedom of navigation, especially, in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, which is the transport route and strategic area in all over the world.

2. The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its concern over suspicious tanker incidents in the Persian Gulf. It also hereby states that any insecurity and instability in the strategic seaway of the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz are against safeguarding the interests as well as internal and transregional efforts to ease the tension and peace in the region.

3. The security in the Persian Gulf is interconnected and inseparable concepts and the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to secure the security of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has been constantly doing its utmost and has also rescued the crew members of the attacked vessels as quickly as possible during the accident.

4. The presence of the foreign forces in the Persian Gulf will not only help safety and security of the region but will also be main source of tension. Iran and its neighboring countries are solely responsible for security in the Persian Gulf.
