Police to hand off Koo-Choi case

Nov 08,2018
After finishing investigations into the controversy surrounding singer Koo Ha-ra and her ex-boyfriend Choi Jong-bum, the police announced Wednesday that it will be handing the case over to prosecutors by the end of the week.

While both Koo and Choi have filed complaints against each other to the police, investigators found out that Choi had taken explicit videos of Koo without her knowing and will be pressing an additional charge against him for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.

According to police, Koo is suspected of injuring Choi’s face, while Choi is facing suspicions of threats, physical harm, sexual assault and property damage.

The news comes two months after Koo and Choi had a physical fight at Koo’s house on Sept. 10. Koo previously claimed that Choi hit her first and threatened her to release sex tapes of the two, while Choi argued that Koo was the one to injure him after he told her he wanted to break up.

Regarding the sex tape, Choi claimed that Koo was the one who insisted on taking the videos in the first place and that he was innocent. However, according to messages between the two revealed by local news outlet Dispatch on Oct. 4, it appeared as if Choi has been threatening Koo with the tapes. With police investigations supporting his apparent threat, Choi is now facing criticism from the public.

On Oct. 22, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station issued an arrest warrant for Choi, but the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the warrant two days later on Oct. 24.
