UAE’s crown prince to visit Korea next week

Feb 20,2019
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan will visit Korea next week for a meeting with President Moon Jae-in that will focus on ways to improve the countries’ ties, the Blue House said Tuesday.

The de facto leader of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will arrive here next Tuesday on a two-day official visit.

President Moon and the crown prince will hold a bilateral summit Wednesday, according to the Blue House.

“At the upcoming summit, the two leaders are set to focus on specific and practical ways to further develop the ties between the two countries into a more mutually beneficial and future-oriented relationship,” it said in a press release.

To this end, the leaders will discuss ways to expand the countries’ bilateral cooperation to new industrial sectors, including semiconductors and 5G technology, as well as security, the defense industry and information communication technology, it added.

The countries upgraded their ties to a special strategic partnership when Moon visited the Middle Eastern country in March 2018.

The UAE is the only Middle Eastern country and one of only three in the world to have established such a relationship with South Korea, according to the Blue House.

As of 2018, the UAE was the world’s single largest destination for South Korean construction companies and the largest importer of South Korean goods in the Middle East.

The crown prince’s visit to Seoul will be the fifth of its kind.
