Amcham, gov’t to create Camp Humphreys statue

July 04,2018
The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (Amcham) and the Ministry of Defense signed an agreement on Monday to establish a monument to commemorate the relocation of the U.S. military headquarters in Korea to Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi.

Amcham said Tuesday that the establishment will be made to honor the strengthening of the Korea-U.S. alliance.

“The symbolic sculpture installed on the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek will be a monument to the memory of the U.S.-Korea alliance that has been strong for the past 60 years,” said Kim You-geun, chief director of Ministry of National Defense U.S. Forces Korea Base Relocation Office at the meeting.

Under the agreement, Amcham will launch a committee that will be in charge of raising funds with domestic and foreign companies for the making and installment of the sculpture, which will be placed in front of the new U.S. Forces Korea headquarters at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek in the second half of 2018.
