40,000 vehicles from 10 brands to be recalled

June 21,2019
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Thursday it is recalling over 40,000 vehicles from 10 auto companies including Jaguar Land Rover Korea and Hyundai Motor Group’s premium brand Genesis due to component defects.

According to the Transport Ministry, it discovered that Jaguar Land Rover Korea’s past recall measures on 16,000 vehicles over defects in their diesel engines were inadequate after an investigation. The company will undergo another recall that adds 3,500 additional vehicles.

The seven models in question include the Jaguar XF, XJ, F-Pace, Discovery 4, Range Rover, Range Rover Sports and Discovery.

The brand will also conduct an additional recall of 122 Jaguar I-Paces as the model’s regenerative braking system does not meet the government’s safety standards.

The ministry said it will levy a fine on the automaker for failing to meet standards.

The government also said around 14,000 vehicles from Hyundai Motor Group will be recalled due to errors in their smart cruise control software.

The vehicles include the Genesis G90, the brand’s large-size sedan launched late last year, Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq sedan and Kia Motors’ Niro compact crossover.

The ministry explained that the cruise control system would change the vehicle’s speed regardless of driver intervention and fail to maintain a safe distance between vehicles and increase the likelihood of accidents. The vehicles in question started undergoing recalls for a software update on June 14.

The government recall announcement also includes vehicles from Man Truck Korea and Daimler Trucks Korea.
