FC Seoul reappoints Choi Yong-soo as head coach

Oct 12,2018
FC Seoul of the K League 1 reappointed Choi Yong-soo as their head coach on Thursday.

After Hwang Sun-hong, FC Seoul’s former manager, stepped down from his position in April, Lee Eul-yong led the club. However, FC Seoul has continued to struggle in the K League 1 this season, dropping into the lower half of the league standings.

Choi led the team from 2011 to 2016. After serving the 2011 season as a caretaker, in 2012, his first season as a manager, Choi successfully led Seoul to win the K League 1 title. In 2013, Choi led Seoul to a runner-up finish at the AFC Champions League, and in 2015, he led the team to win the Korea FA Cup.

Seoul is having a very disappointing 2018 season. They are ranked ninth with eight wins, 11 ties and 13 losses. This is the first time the club dropped to the lower tier since the K League first introduced its split system in 2012. Choi will lead Seoul starting with its match against Jeju United on Oct. 20. Choi will take the helm until 2021.
