Doosan’s Kim Kang-ryul could miss Korean Series

Oct 25,2018
A key relief pitcher for the Korean baseball title favorites has suffered an Achilles tendon injury, leaving his status for the upcoming championship series in doubt.

The Doosan Bears said Wednesday their right-hander Kim Kang-ryul came down with the right foot injury during a Japanese winter league game against the Hanshin Tigers in Miyazaki. Kim, who came on in the ninth inning, was trying to cover the third base bag on a play when he pulled up lame.

The initial diagnosis in Japan was damage to the Achilles tendon. The Bears said Kim will be re-examined in Korea later Wednesday.

The Bears finished the regular season in first place with a 93-51 record and advanced directly to the Korean Series, which begins Nov. 4. They will take on the winner of the second round series between the SK Wyverns and the Nexen Heroes, which starts Saturday.
