Women’s team finishes 2nd at Omaha Curling World Cup

The Korean women’s curling team lost 7-6 to Japan to finish runner-up at the second leg of the Curling World Cup in Omaha on Sunday.

Although Japan was first to take the lead by winning two points in the first end, Korea quickly brought back their lead with a big four points in the second end. Korea then extended their lead to 6-3 by the fifth end, though Japan slowly made their way up in the next three ends.

While Korea held a 7-6 lead in the eighth end, Japan took advantage of being the hammer and won two points to take home a thrilling come-from-behind victory.

With a loss, Korea took home a total of 17 points from the second event and is ranked fourth in the Curling World Cup ranking this season, at 20 points. The winners of the each of the three legs of the Curling World Cup will be invited to compete at the Grand Final, which will be in Beijing starting on May 8. The winners will compete against the World Champions and a specially invited team. In addition to the qualifiers listed, the top two Member Associations from the Curling World Cup rankings will also be given invitations to compete.

The third leg of the Curling World Cup will be held in Jonkoping, Sweden, starting on Jan. 30.
