Los Angeles Dodgers head home after losing Game 5

Oct 11,2019
The Los Angeles Dodgers are knocked out of the National League Division Series as they lost Game 5 to the Washington Nationals at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.

In Game 5 of the Division Series, the Dodgers got off to a great start as they scored three runs in the first two innings. The Dodgers’ starter Walker Buehler was well on pace to lead the Dodgers to the National League Championship Series as he gave up only one run throughout six and two-thirds of an inning.

But things went wrong once Buehler left the mound. After a scoreless seventh, the Dodgers’ three-time Cy Young award winner Clayton Kershaw got on the mound. Despite expectations that the Dodgers would continue to hound the Nationals’ batters, Kershaw gave away back-to-back home runs at the top of the eighth, quickly tying the game 3-3.

Then, after a scoreless ninth inning, the Dodgers’ Joe Kelly quickly loaded the bases, and the Nationals’ Howie Kendrick hit a grand slam, giving the Nationals the lead for the first time.

As the Dodgers failed to score another run at the bottom of the 10th, Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle made quick work of the team to pick up a win.

The Nationals will now play against the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series.
