Aug 22,2018
1) A man in his seventies broke into Socheon-myeon office in Bonghwa County, North Gyeongsang, and opened fire with a shotgun, killing two and injuring one.

2) According to Bonghwa Police Station, the 77-year-old suspect first fired near Imgi Station in Socheon-myeon and shot a monk.

3) He then moved onto the township office and shot two township officials surnamed Son (47) and Lee (38).

4) The officials were moved onto medically outfitted helicopters but passed away shortly afterward. The monk had an injured shoulder but survived.

5) According to testimonies from adjacent residents and the police, the suspect has resided in the county since 2014.

6) The suspect seems to have been in frequent spats with the monk regarding water provision. He claimed that the monk used so much water that it lowered the water pressure at his house.

7) It was discovered that the suspect had visited the township office and made a formal complaint against the monk for using too much water and burning garbage in the area, causing smoke to enter his house.

8) The complaint wasn’t accepted, making some assume that the suspect committed this crime out of spite.

9) It was also discovered that the suspect told the monk that he would “shoot him with a rifle.”

10) The police are investigating the case by questioning the monk and officials at the township office about the crime scene and the suspect’s potential motive.
