[VIDEO NEWS] President Moon Jae-in on law enforcement reform

1) President Moon Jae-in held a strategy conference with the National Intelligence Service, the prosecution and the police.

2) During the conference, he said, “South Korea’s sovereignty lies in the people. All officials, official institutions and the government, including the Blue House, should remind themselves that they exist only for the people.”

3) Moon added that “law enforcement reform is something that can’t be postponed anymore” and said he wanted to emphasize the legalization and institutionalization of such reform more than anything else.

4) Furthermore, he said, “The National Assembly should respond to people’s expectations.” Moon requested that the National Assembly do its best to provide legislation for the reform of the National Intelligence Service, the establishment of a new public office,investigative power and the autonomous police system within this year.

5) The Blue House, in a joint conference with the Democratic Party and the government the day before, decided to carry out the autonomous police system this year in five cities. The system is expected to expand to the entire country by 2021.
