Police officers prepare to remove a bronze statue representing a forced laborer from a pedestrian road near the Japanese consulate in central Busan on Wednesday. Korean civic groups installed the statue to protest the Japanese government for failing to acknowledge the millions of Koreans who were forced into labor when the Japanese occupied Korea from 1910 to 1945. The statute has irked the Japanese government, and the diplomatic row led the Busan government to announce it would forcibly remove the statue on Thursday.[YONHAP]
